Let it be clearly stated that Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport Ltd bears no responsibility for the flight cancellation involving Ms. Ogunmola and United Nigeria Airlines.
The issue currently circulating is the cancellation or delay of United Nigeria Airlines’ flight operations into Ekiti, which has understandably generated public concern.
While some members of the public are familiar with airline operations, others may not be fully informed, leading to assumptions based on personal interpretations. It is therefore important to clarify the distinction between an airline operator and an airport operator.
Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport Ltd is an airport operator, not an airline. Our responsibility is to provide a platform and infrastructure for airlines to operate.
In many airports across the country, multiple airlines operate simultaneously; however, at present, United Nigeria Airlines is the only airline operating into Ekiti.
The recent development is beyond the control of airport management and the Ekiti State Ministry of Transportation, which oversees the airport.
Where an airline reports technical or operational challenges, passenger safety must remain the highest priority.
Once an airline declares an operational issue, it indicates that there may be a technical concern with the aircraft, and safety must take precedence over all other considerations.
Upon engaging the airline for clarification, the reason communicated to us was an operational or technical issue. At that point, further investigation falls under the statutory responsibility of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the industry regulator. The NCAA also has a Consumer Protection Department responsible for addressing passenger-related concerns arising from such situations.
For the avoidance of doubt, this incident has no connection with the management of Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport Ltd, nor with the Ministry of Transportation. However, as a responsible airport operator committed to providing efficient and reliable services to the people of Ekiti State and beyond, we will continue to engage the airline and advocate that Ekiti Airport be accorded due priority.
We will also continue to emphasize the importance of timely and adequate communication to passengers whenever such situations arise, to enable them to make alternative arrangements.
The issue with the airline has been resolved. Ekiti Airport successfully recorded two flights yesterday, and another flight is scheduled for today.
Let it be clearly stated that Ekiti Airport is fully operational, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the airport.
Thank you.
