The Vice Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige, announced this on Monday during the official Convocation Press Conference held at the University Senate Chamber.

The briefing also marked Professor Ige’s final convocation address as Vice Chancellor, prompting a detailed reflection on the institution’s achievements since he assumed office on July 7, 2021.

Of the 5,799 graduands, 5,251 are undergraduate students, 526 are postgraduate students, while 22 completed diploma programmes.

The undergraduate degree classifications include:

First Class: 32

Second Class Upper: 1,444

Second Class Lower: 3,177

Third Class: 582

The Faculty of Education produced the highest number of graduates with 1,035 students, followed by the Institute of Education (IOE) with 1,214.

Activities lined up for the week include a Research, Development and Innovation Fair, drama performances, and a friendly football match.
The Convocation Lecture, titled “Strengthening the Academic Tradition in the Nigerian University System,” will be delivered by former University of Ibadan Vice Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka.

In his address,, Professor Ige highlighted remarkable progress in academic excellence, infrastructure, research, staff development, and student welfare achieved under his stewardship.

He reiterated that the university has maintained 100% accreditation for all its programmes from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

He added that new faculties—including the Faculties of Allied Health Sciences, Computing, and Administration & Management Sciences—were also established to expand academic offerings.

He disclosed that three AAUA law graduates—Ojuko Temitayo Victoria, Eniola Alice Aladeloba, and Akinola Shalom Tinuoluwa—earned First Class honours at the Nigerian Law School in 2024.

The Vice Chancellor also announced that nine AAUA academics were listed among the top 2% of researchers worldwide in the 2024 Elsevier–Stanford Global Ranking of Top Scientists.
He gave special commendation to Professor Sunday Olatunji, renowned for his pioneering work in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Despite financial challenges, Prof. Ige revealed that the university was able to complete several capital projects, including: Construction of the Faculty of Science Glasshouse, a new Faculty of Social Sciences building, renovation of the 30-Classroom Quadrangle, Intercontinental Hall, and the Faculty of Education.

Most notably, he announced the foundation-laying for a new 80-bed hostel, the first ever built since the university’s establishment—funded through contributions from staff, alumni, friends of the university, and students.

Professor Ige confirmed that 109 academic staff were promoted to the rank of Professor during his tenure.
In the non-academic cadre, 13 staff members were promoted to Deputy Registrar and five to Deputy Bursar, a move he said has boosted institutional morale and productivity.
He added that a cohort of 12 academic staff recently completed an international training programme under the Virtual Institute for Capacity Building in Higher Education (VICBHE), all finishing with distinctions.

The university’s Work-Study Scheme, scholarship programmes, and support for physically challenged students—whose tuition fees are subsidised by 50%—remain central to AAUA’s welfare policy, he said.

According to him, AAUA has also integrated technology into student governance, including electronic voting for Students’ Union elections.

In sports, the Vice Chancellor celebrated the university’s performance at the Nigerian University Games (NUGA), where students won medals in athletics, swimming, table tennis, and boxing.

Professor Ige appreciated Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Governing Council, Senate, staff, students, alumni, and the host community for their support throughout his tenure.
