The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has lauded Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his consistent commitment to the welfare of workers and retirees in the state.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Alex Kalejaye, described the governor’s focus on the well-being of senior citizens as “uncommon and deeply encouraging.”

The APC particularly commended the governor for flagging off the payment of ₦1.4 billion as gratuities and other retirement benefits to retirees in Akure, coming shortly after the recent payment of leave bonuses to serving civil servants.

“The commitment of the State Government, under Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to the welfare of civil servants and retirees deserves commendation. It is glaringly an uncommon focus on the well-being of senior citizens,” the statement read in part.

The party emphasised that Aiyedatiwa’s gesture demonstrates genuine concern for both active and retired workers, noting that such policies would boost morale in the civil service and promote trust in the system.

According to the APC, ensuring timely payment of entitlements not only motivates serving officers but also enhances the quality of life for retirees after decades of active service, while reducing tendencies toward corrupt practices.

“Civil service is the acclaimed engine room of government, and one way to encourage those in service to concentrate on their duties is the assurance of retirement benefits,” the statement added.

The party further urged retirees to reciprocate the government’s gesture by supporting its development efforts at the grassroots level and offering professional advice to aid the progress of the state.
