As part of activities marking the 2025 Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, a 28-year breast cancer survivor and founder of the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN), has announced the launch of a special initiative tagged the Thriving Beyond Breast Cancer Series.
The series, themed “Thriving Beyond Breast Cancer: (Number of Years) and Still Counting,” is designed to spotlight survivors’ stories, celebrate their resilience, and amplify hope for those currently battling the disease.
According to Dr. Akeredolu, the project will feature testimonies from women who have overcome breast cancer and are living purposeful, joyful lives years after their diagnosis. She explained that survivors, whether one year, five years, or decades post-diagnosis, are encouraged to share their journeys as an inspiration to others.
Interested participants are expected to submit a short write-up of not more than two pages, alongside their photograph and the number of years since their diagnosis. Entries should be submitted on or before October 7, 2025, via email at akeredolubetty@gmail.com or through WhatsApp at 08033331211.
Dr. Akeredolu emphasized that the Thriving Beyond Breast Cancer Series is a platform to change the narrative around the disease, demonstrating that survival is possible and that life after breast cancer can be rich with purpose and fulfillment.
“Let’s show the world that life after breast cancer is full of joy, resilience, and meaning,” she said.
