The Nigerian media industry is in mourning following the tragic death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a rising journalist and anchor with ARISE News Channel, who was killed during an armed robbery at her home in Katampe, Abuja.

Maduagwu, fondly called “Sommie” by colleagues and friends, died in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025. She was 29.

Her sudden passing has sent shockwaves across the nation, leaving her family, colleagues, and viewers devastated. In a statement released on its official X handle, ARISE News described her as a respected anchor, reporter, and producer whose work touched audiences nationwide.
