The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, has warned officers against mounting unauthorized roadblocks, extortion, and other forms of misconduct, stressing that the forthcoming enforcement of tinted glass permit regulations must not be turned into a money-making venture.
He gave the warning on Friday, September 26, 2025, during a strategic meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders at the Command Headquarters in Akure.
The Commissioner emphasized the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, that any officer found culpable of extortion, indiscriminate arrests, or incivility at checkpoints would face strict disciplinary measures.
CP Adebowale also commended officers for recent achievements, including the arrest of criminals, recovery of stolen vehicles, foiling of kidnap attempts, and the neutralization of armed gangs in various encounters. He urged sustained intelligence-led policing and closer community partnership, noting that collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders, transport unions, and other stakeholders remained vital to addressing emerging threats.
With the ember months, political activities, and Independence Day celebrations ahead, he directed intensified patrols and improved community relations across the state. He further cautioned officers in border communities with Kogi, Edo, and Osun States to heighten vigilance, boost surveillance, and liaise with credible non-state actors for intelligence gathering.
Reiterating the provisions of the Police Act 2020, the CP charged officers to uphold accountability, professionalism, and humane treatment of suspects. He stressed that torture, ill-treatment, and meddling in civil disputes such as land, tenancy, and inheritance matters were strictly prohibited.
The meeting also featured recognition of exemplary officers, with CSP Oladapo William, Divisional Police Officer of Ikare Division, and DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command’s spokesperson, receiving awards for outstanding service.
Concluding, CP Adebowale reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property with fairness and integrity, pledging to align fully with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
