The Ondo State Police Command has arrested and arraigned a 53-year-old man, Babawale Kolawole, for allegedly committing incest and repeatedly sexually abusing his teenage niece.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayalade Olayinka Olushola, the incident was reported on September 13, 2025, when the 16-year-old victim lodged a complaint at the command headquarters.
The victim alleged that her uncle had been subjecting her to sexual assault almost daily. She further disclosed that after each encounter, the suspect would clean her private part with a piece of cloth and had facilitated the termination of two of her pregnancies.
Following the report, the Gender-Based Offences Unit of the command promptly arrested Kolawole and prepared the case for prosecution. He has since been arraigned before a competent court and remanded in custody pending further trial.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, PSC+, MNIPS, assured members of the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting women and children from abuse and ensuring that offenders face the full weight of the law.
“This achievement aligns with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, whose reform-driven leadership continues to strengthen gender-sensitive policing and strategic responses against sexual and gender-based violence nationwide,” the statement read.
The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to report suspected cases of abuse promptly, noting that such cooperation is vital to creating a safer society.
