A medical worker at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, Pastor Ayodeji Akesinro, has been abducted by gunmen at his residence in Upenme, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident, which occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2025, has thrown residents and his colleagues into shock.
Confirming the development, a senior labour leader under the National Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) in FMC Owo, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the matter had been reported to security agencies.
In a statement issued by the association, members expressed concern over the safety of their colleague and urged urgent intervention by government and security operatives.
The union said it may have no choice but to declare a protest in Owo to demand his immediate release, stressing that their demands include the safe return of Pastor Akesinro, improved security measures in Owo and its environs to check the rising spate of abductions, particularly of health workers, as well as collaboration with security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The union described the incessant attacks on health workers as worrisome, warning that “an injury to one is an injury to all.”
As of press time, security agencies were said to be on the trail of the kidnappers.
