..trains Technical Coordinators

The Federal Government of Nigeria has engaged Kalesanwa Initiative, a community-based social foundation, as a Third-Party Monitor for the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO).

As part of this mandate, Kalesanwa recently held a technical training session for its coordinators across the 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo State at Heritage Continental Hotel, Ijapo, Akure. The training focused on strengthening the capacity of participants to verify payment deliverables and ensure that the cash transfer process remains free, fair, transparent, and in line with the standards set by NASSCO.

The exercise forms part of the National Social Safety Nets Project Scale-Up (NASSP-SU)—a Federal Government initiative designed to expand coverage and improve the delivery of social safety nets for poor and vulnerable households.

In this role, Kalesanwa is expected to ensure transparency, compliance, and accountability in the cash transfer programme.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Moyosola Niran-Oladunni, Convener of Kalesanwa Initiative, underscored the significance of the training in preparing coordinators for their duties across the state.

He commended the participants for their commitment despite the short notice and stressed the need for compliance, transparency, and fairness in the delivery of government programmes.

According to him, society can only develop when officials consistently play their roles by doing the right thing.

The training featured sessions facilitated by Mr. Tomori Oladipupo, who outlined the key objectives of the partnership, which include: “Ensuring transparency and compliance in identifying Poor and Vulnerable Households (PVHHs) under the National Social Register (NSR) and Rapid Response Register (RRR).

“Verifying payments to beneficiaries through approved platforms and modalities.

“Assessing the adequacy of communication, education, and information dissemination mechanisms at all levels of the project”.

To achieve these goals, participants will deploy tools such as interpersonal communication, mobile devices for photographic evidence, and field data collection.
