As part of the Report Women! Female Reporters Leadership Programme Fellowship by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, 2025 Cohort member Mary Olumuyiwa Agidi trained members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in Ondo State on leveraging digital tools to enhance their professional performance and unlock career opportunities.

The training, held at the State Pen Centre in Adegbemile, Akure, focused on “Leveraging Digital Tools to Boost Professional Performance & Unlock Career Development Opportunities.”

Agidi introduced participants to platforms like LinkedIn and X, emphasizing their role in boosting professional visibility and career growth. She also showcased tools to streamline tasks such as audio and video transcription, editing, and content rewriting.

NAWOJ State Chairperson, Mrs. Tola Gbadamosi, expressed gratitude for the initiative and encouraged Agidi to continue sharing such opportunities.

She reaffirmed her commitment to supporting initiatives that promote members’ welfare and professional growth.

Mrs. Bukola Aduwo, Director of News at the Nigerian Television Authority, Akure, hailed the training as timely in an increasingly digital world.

She criticized outdated paper-based editing practices in some newsrooms and urged participants to apply their new skills.

Aduwo advocated for more peer-to-peer training to reduce reliance on external trainers and envisioned more women in leadership roles through such capacity-building efforts.

Participants actively engaged with Agidi, with many registering on the recommended platforms and pledging to maintain an active online presence.

Agidi previously conducted similar training for female editorial staff at her workplace, Owena Press Limited, publisher of The Hope Newspaper.

She also mentored female student interns, guiding them to use their smartphones productively for professional purposes rather than just social media.
