The Ondo State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) National Women’s Commission has inaugurated Comrade Folarin Omowumi as Chairperson, alongside a new six-member executive committee, to steer the affairs of the women’s wing in the state.
The swearing-in took place during the 6th NLC State Women’s Conference and election of officers, held in Akure, Ondo State capital. The elections for the NLC National Women’s Commission were previously conducted in April 2025.
The newly inaugurated officers are:. Com. Folarin Omowumi Chairperson (AUPCTRE). Com. Ahed Muinat Bolawa Vice Chairperson (NUEE). Com. Adefuwa Bosede Secretary (NUT). Com. Akinola Olubunmi Assistant Secretary (NULGE). Com. Adewale Oluwasola Ex-Officio (MHWUN). Com. Femi Oyekan Foluke – Ex-Officio (NUPSTRAW)
The post of Chairperson Women committee automatically becomes the Vice Chairman of NLC Ondo state.
In her acceptance speech, Comrade Omowumi, of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE), described her election as a call to serve. She pledged to champion the interests and welfare of women in the state, with a focus on policies supporting maternity rights, fair wages, protection from gender-based violence, and career growth opportunities.
“My vision is to create a platform where every woman in the workforce is heard, valued, and protected,” she said. “We must stand for justice, equality, and fairness, even in adversity. Let us lift each other up, celebrate successes, and be architects of our own story.”
The President of the NLC National Women’s Committee, Comrade Habilan Ofule, emphasised that the women’s structure within the NLC serves as a preparatory ground for women to assume leadership roles across workplaces, unions, and society. She stressed that women must take charge of empowerment initiatives and actively manage their own electoral processes.
NLC Ondo State Chairman, Ademola Adeniji, urged members to support the new leadership. “Women are fast thinkers; something better always comes out of them. Work together, carry your people along, and handle your affairs without interference,” he advised.
The event was well attended by representatives of various women’s organisations in the state.
