Former First Lady of Ondo State, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has praised the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, SAN, for his balanced handling of the recent controversial incidents involving Ms. Comfort Emmanson and popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1), at Nigerian airports.
In a statement from Ibadan, Akeredolu said the minister’s decision to grant clemency to both parties was a demonstration of fairness, compassion, and responsive leadership, noting that the move addressed public concerns over perceived unequal treatment between the two cases.
“Given the perception that Ms. Emmanson’s treatment was harsher than that of KWAM 1, this resolution restores a sense of equity and shows that public opinion, when constructively expressed, can influence governance positively,” she said.
The women’s rights advocate urged the episode to serve as a turning point for Nigeria’s aviation sector, calling on airlines—particularly Ibom Air—to invest in robust customer service training focused on empathy, communication, and conflict resolution. She also emphasised that passengers must familiarise themselves with aviation safety regulations to ensure mutual respect between airline staff and travellers.
“Let this be the last time we see such matters escalate into national spectacles. A professional, safety-conscious, and customer-friendly aviation industry is in everyone’s interest,” she added.
