The Ondo State Police Command has refuted reports of a kidnappers’ den discovered at an abandoned government building on Old Ikare Road, Owo.
Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal disclosed this while addressing journalists during a press briefing on Friday, July 4, 2025 in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
According to him, investigations revealed the site is unused and may have been inhabited by a mentally unstable person, and warned against spreading unverified information that could incite public panic.
While reaffirming the police’s dedication to combating crime across the state through intelligence-led policing, proactive strategies, and the deployment of modern technology, CP Lawal disclosed that the Ondo Police Command has received a high-capacity gunboat from the Inspector-General of Police and new patrol vehicles from the State Government.
This he said would enhance security, particularly in riverine and remote communities, and commended both the IGP and Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa for their support in strengthening operational capacity.
He highlighted some recently recorded achievements of the command to include:
Police Dismantle Four-Man Robbery Syndicate in Ondo
The Ondo Police Command has dismantled a notorious four-man armed robbery gang responsible for violent attacks and car theft in Akure and Owo. Acting on intelligence, the Tactical Intelligence and Response Squad arrested all suspects, recovered stolen items, and launched a manhunt for an arms supplier linked to the gang.
Two Arrested for ₦4.5m Online Fraud in Ondo
Two male suspects have been arrested for their involvement in a ₦4.5 million fraud scheme targeting an Ogun-based online vendor. The fraud, executed through fake bank alerts, was traced to Akure and Ondo town. The mastermind, Bunmi Oyinlola, remains at large, while the arrested accomplices are facing prosecution.
Stolen Livestock Worth ₦41m Recovered
The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ondo State Police has recovered 22 out of 55 stolen cattle allegedly carted away by a fleeing employee. The livestock, valued at ₦41 million, belonged to Prince Fasua Peter Oyeleye. The primary suspect remains on the run as investigations continue.
Police Nab Notorious Cultist in Owo
A 28-year-old suspected cultist and senior member of the Eiye Confraternity, Olujide Boluwaji Israel (alias Kendowell), has been arrested in Owo. The suspect, known for terrorizing students of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic and residents, was apprehended following an intelligence-led raid. Efforts are underway to arrest his accomplices.
Man Arrested for Fatally Stabbing Brother in Idanre
Police in Idanre have arrested 26-year-old Gabriel Pius for allegedly stabbing his younger brother, Abu Simon, to death during a domestic dispute. The case has been transferred to the State CID for further investigation, with the suspect to be charged to court upon conclusion.
Arrest Three Over Burglary at Akure Residence
Three suspects have been arrested in connection with a burglary that occurred on June 21 at Apex School quarters in Akure. Stolen items recovered include high-end smartphones and cash. The suspects include the principal burglar, Femi Dada, and two receivers of the stolen goods. They will be charged accordingly.
CP Adebowale therefore, commended the public, government, and the media for their cooperation and called for continued vigilance and support. He assured that with the integration of technology and intelligence, the police are well-equipped to sustain the momentum in tackling crime and ensuring a peaceful Ondo State.
