The father, uncle and the younger brother of the groom were amongst the eight people killed by a mob in Manjul community of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau on Friday, a survivor, Ibrahim Umar, has revealed.
Eight people were burnt to ashes, four missing and 19 others hospitalised after the mob attacked travellers on their way to Kwa in Qua’anpan Local Government Area of Plateau State to attend a wedding ceremony.
According to the survivor, the prompt response of the military saved their lives.
“The father, younger brother of the groom and the groom’s uncle have all been killed by the mob.
“The groom hails from Zaria but lectures at an institution in the area (Kwa). During his time there, he met a woman and they agreed to marry.
“We were transporting kola nuts and other traditional gifts for the wedding. We explained everything to those who attacked us, but they didn’t listen.

“We told them we were visitors from Kaduna State heading to a wedding ceremony, but they refused to believe us,” Mr Umar said.
He commended the response of soldiers stationed nearby, whose intervention save the lives of some of them.
“The soldiers really helped us. They came to our rescue. Without their timely intervention, the outcome could have been far worse.”
The Advocate reports that the Plateau police command had on Saturday confirmed the arrest of 22 persons suspected to be among the mob that attacked the bus conveying the travelers.
