A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Moyosola Niran-Oladunni, has expressed concerns over the quality of leadership in Nigeria, attributing the nation’s challenges to the election of survivalists instead of visionary leaders.
Speaking on recent political developments involving wave of political cross-carpeting by members of the People’s Democratic Party to the ruling party, Niran-Oladunni emphasized that Nigeria’s progress continues to be hampered by the absence of leaders with foresight and long-term vision.
“It boils down to the pedigree of those people we elect as leaders. We elect survivalists as leaders rather than visionary people. The reason for our suffering in Nigeria is that we don’t have visionary leaders.”
Niran-Oladunni warned that the decampment poses a greater threat to the APC than to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing that the ruling party may bear the brunt of the political realignment.
“The decampment is more dangerous to the APC than the PDP. Eventually, the APC will suffer from that decampment more than the PDP,” he noted.
He further stated that the APC’s current posture could lead to an internal crisis, saying, “The party has invited fast tools for imminent explosion with the decampment.”
Niran-Oladunni’s remarks underscore the growing concerns among the political party enthusiasts about the possibility of weakening multiparty system in Nigeria with the rate of how politicians, especially sitting governors abandoned their parties to the ruling APC.
