Rethinking Society’s Role in Her Journey

By Mercy Roland, CEO, MercySpeaks Initiatives

When a young girl becomes a mother, her life changes forever. Sometimes it happens by choice, but many times, it happens because of mistakes, pressure, or abuse. No matter how it happened, what she needs most is support—not shame.

Sadly, society often judges her. She’s called names, pushed aside, and made to feel like she has no future. But the truth is, she is still a child who now has to raise another child. That’s not easy. She needs care, guidance, and love more than ever.

We must stop blaming and start helping. Parents, communities, and leaders must step up. Let’s provide her with emotional support, education, parenting classes, and access to healthcare. Let’s help her dream again and show her she’s not alone.

She doesn’t need to be a victim of her past. With the right support, she can still become a strong, wise, and successful woman—and a good mother too.

Do you know a young mother who needs hope?
