.. promoting acts of kindness can curb social vices- Falana

In a bid to enhance healthcare services and support government initiatives, the Ondo State chapter of Good Deeds Day has donated essential medical equipment to the Isolo Primary Health Care (PHC) Centre in Akure South Local Government Area.

As part of activities marking the 2025 Good Deeds Day in Akure, the non-governmental organization also organized a free medical outreach at the PHC, offering residents vital health services.

Speaking to journalists, the National Project Coordinator, Martin Mary Falana, highlighted the group’s efforts to raise awareness about Good Deeds Day, a globally recognized event dedicated to promoting acts of kindness and compassion.

“This year’s Good Deeds Day focuses on health, encouraging people to take advantage of free medical services at the Community Primary Health Care Centre,” Falana said.

He explained that the outreach aimed to provide medical interventions to improve community members’ well-being and productivity.

“As a movement, we are delighted to mark this day by donating medical kits to Isolo Health Centre. Our goal is to ensure access to quality healthcare services,” he added.

Falana further emphasized the organization’s broader humanitarian efforts, which include feeding the less privileged and fostering love and compassion in society.

“Previously, we visited the Leprosarium, spent time with residents, provided food, and created memorable experiences. Our mission extends beyond healthcare,” he noted.

According to him, promoting acts of kindness can help curb social vices such as kidnapping, robbery, and ritual killings.

The Ondo State Coordinator for Good Deeds Day, Mrs. Irene Odigie, expressed satisfaction with the turnout, noting that the outreach included six different medical tests, such as HIV screening and blood pressure checks.

“We are offering these tests because many people cannot afford them. Our collaboration with the government is crucial, as we cannot do this alone,” Odigie stated.

She added that referrals would be made for further medical attention where necessary, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to advocacy and engagement with the government to drive meaningful interventions.

A beneficiary, Mrs. Joke Akomolaran, described the initiative as commendable, expressing gratitude to the organizers. “This is my first time benefiting from such a program, and I truly appreciate it,” she said.

The items donated to the Isolo Health Centre management included a blood pressure monitor, a blood sugar testing machine, and a weighing scale.
