..frowns at sales of coffins at UNIMEDTH’s OPD premises




Ondo Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ decried  the flagrant and public sales of coffins/Caskets at the premises of the UNIMED teaching hospital mortuary in Akure, which are displayed directly opposite the Out Patient Department OPD, and close to the Emergency Unit of the UNIMED Teaching Hospital.

NUJ therefore called on the state government to urgently order the relocation of the Caskets shop by a private operator from the hospital to save psychology meltdown among patients.

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the monthly Congress of the union held at the press Centre in Akure, the state capital.

The Congress, presided over by the union’s chairman, Leke Adegbite also appealed to the State governor to provide security agencies with necessary facilities and tools like vehicles, drones, trackers and other logistics to enable them combat crimes effectively.

The Congress also enjoined Mr Governor to recruit more officers and provide more vehicles for the State Security Network codenamed, Amotekun Corps.

Ondo Journalists also called for synergy and proper co-ordination of purpose among security agencies to enable them tackle headlong the issue of insecurity in the state.

“That the Congress notes with satisfaction the swift response of the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa over the recent security challenges in the state, especially by setting up of a Joint Task Force on Security”.

The Congress frowned at the degenerating health facilities across the state, and the trauma of patients in accessing quality and affordable health services; calling on the state Governor to declare a State Of Emergency on the state health sector.

Ondo NUJ used the medium to appealled to Federal Government to look into irregularities in the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage for Federal Workers especially those working with FRCN, NTA, NAN and VON.

” That the Congress also called on the State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to reactivate the quarterly Media Chat “Meet the Governor” programme to keep the people of the state and beyond abreast of his Programmes and policies.

“That the Union applauds Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for approving recruitments of teachers for Primary and Secondary schools in the state, urging the political class to ensure that those employed are deployed to the rural areas”.
