As part of activities to mark the 2024 World AIDS Day, the Ondo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (ODSACA) held a thanksgiving service on Sunday in Akure, the state capital.
The service, conducted at the Chapel of Grace, Government House, Alagbaka, was attended by the state governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa; his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami; members of the State Executive Council; and other top government officials.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Dayo Adegbulu, the Project Manager of ODSACA, explained that the thanksgiving service was part of the agency’s awareness campaign to educate the public on HIV/AIDS prevention and honor the memory of those who have died from the disease.
“This year’s theme, Take the Right Path, reminds us to reflect on our journey so far, evaluate our progress, and identify strategies needed to achieve our goals,” he said.
Dr. Adegbulu disclosed that an estimated 28,334 people are living with HIV in Ondo State, with over 21,310 currently receiving treatment and essential medications. He called for sustained efforts and strategic interventions to eliminate HIV/AIDS by 2030.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, commended the state’s consistent progress in providing care and support for HIV/AIDS patients. He assured residents of the government’s unwavering commitment to improving healthcare delivery.
The agency also announced plans to hold an awareness walk on Monday, December 2, 2024, aimed at further educating the public on HIV/AIDS prevention and promoting healthy lifestyle choices.
