..urges ODSG to relinquish control of Sunshine FC to Private Sector
A sports enthusiast and seasoned entrepreneur, Mr. Moyosola Niran-Oladunni, has urged the Ondo State government to relinquish the management of Sunshine Football Club to private entities. He emphasized that professional football is a business venture and should not be treated as a social service.
An Ondo-born politician and passionate advocate for football development, whose contributions to the sport earned him the endorsement of Ijapo Ages FC as their patron, in recognition of his consistent financial support for the club’s activities, asserts that privatizing Sunshine FC would yield significant benefits for the Ondo State government and the club itself.
According to him, Professional football should not be treated as a platform for political patronage, while calling on governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to take decisive steps to initiate the process of divesting the state’s ownership of the club.
“The governor should commence the process of divesting the state holding in the clubside”, he advised.
Highlighting the need for privatization, he stated, “Handing over the management of Sunshine FC to private individuals or organizations would push both the players and the management team to strive for excellence. When managed as a business entity, the level of seriousness and commitment from stakeholders would drastically improve. Issues like relegation or poor performance in tournaments would become rare, while the club would simultaneously generate revenue for the government.”
Niran-Oladunni expressed optimism about the future of the club under private management, noting that such a transition would elevate its status and enhance its performance in both local and international tournaments.
By advocating for this shift, Niran-Oladunni hopes to inspire a more sustainable approach to managing professional sports in Ondo State, saying “Professional football is strictly business, not a social service.”
