In a bid towards Increasing life expectancy and physical strength of the general public, the UNIMED Teaching Hospital Laje Road, Ondo city, Ondo state has begun Kidney Transplant Clinic, so as to prolong and improve the lives of those with end-stage renal disease.

The clinic, situated at the Kidney Care Center within the Teaching Hospital commenced operation on October 11, 2024. The news development was announced by the Acting Chief Medical Director, Dr. Micheal Olumide Gbala.

The UNIMED Kidney Transplant Clinic holds every friday at 9: 00am and it is coordinated by Dr. Akinbodewa Akinwunmi, Consultant Nephrologist and Associate Professor of Internal Medicine. He received the fellowship training on Kidney Transplantation and Immunology sponsored by the international Society of Nephrology at the Stellenbosch Cape Town, South Africa.
According to the Acting CMD, He said that the clinic would focus on pre- transplant assessment of latent Kidney transplant recipients and donors, donors selection, preparation of kidney transplant recipients, intra-operative and post-operative care of the clients (patients).

Dr. Gbala added, that the transplant team will also facilitate regular advocacy for recipients, mass awareness programme on choice of care for end state kidney patients among other activities.

The Acting CMD of UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Laje Road, Ondo state said that the Teaching hospital is strategically poised to deliver world class healthcare services in the most serene and humane environment with a passion for excellent outcomes.
