Various interest groups from diverse sectors in Ondo State, including traditional rulers, farmers, non-indigenes, professional associations, and members of ethnic communities, were inaugurated on Monday, October 21, 2024, to mobilize support for Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa ahead of the upcoming November 16 governorship election.
The event, which aimed to secure 700,000 votes for the governor, brought together groups such as the Odua, Hausa, Igbira, and Niger Delta communities, okada riders, teachers, healthcare professionals, people with disabilities, religious groups, landlords, and diaspora interests.
Representing the governor at the inauguration, Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami praised the initiative led by Hon. Biyi Poroye, chairman of the Special Interest Committee, for uniting these groups to support Governor Aiyedatiwa’s re-election bid.
He commended contributors who provided financial backing for the project and encouraged members to intensify efforts in mobilizing voters and ensuring they collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Dr. Adelami emphasized the importance of grassroots mobilization, urging the groups to return to their respective wards and units to canvass votes. He expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will redefine the political landscape of Ondo State, adding that opposition parties have already been weakened ahead of the polls.
Speaking at the event, APC State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin highlighted the potential for securing 700,000 votes from the over 2 million registered voters in the state. He assured the crowd that the APC has the support base to deliver a decisive victory and guaranteed that those who genuinely work for the party’s success will be duly rewarded.
Hon. Jimi Odimayo also urged the assembled groups to remain committed to delivering votes for Governor Aiyedatiwa, while Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan stressed the significance of the special interest groups in ensuring victory in the November election. He urged members to embark on widespread campaigns, stating that Governor Aiyedatiwa would bring meaningful development to the state.
A key highlight of the event was the symbolic unveiling of 700,000 face caps, representing the target number of votes, by the deputy governor.

In his address, Hon. Biyi Poroye, chairman of the Special Interest Committee, outlined strategies already in place to ensure success, encouraging members to attend landlord meetings and present the government’s plans to residents. He urged them to bring more people into the APC fold as the election draws closer.
The gathering provided various groups the platform to formally endorse Governor Aiyedatiwa as the best candidate in the upcoming election, pledging their support for his re-election campaign.
