The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla on Thursday paid a condolence visit to the family of Lieutenant Commander Gideon Yashim Gwaza, who died July 30 when he led his team to rescue 59 persons on the verge of drowning onboard a dredging vessel, MV AMBIKA 4 at Okpobo River entrance.

The Naval chief enjoined the widow and children of the late officer to take heart despite the physical absence of their breadwinner.

He further assured them that the Nigerian Navy would not forget Lieutenant Commander Gwaza’s sacrifice and would continue to stand with the family.

In a statement, the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu said the visit was solemn but encouraging to the family.

He added that the late Gwaza was a highly dedicated officer who went over and above the call of duty to fulfil mission objectives.

Vice Admiral Ogalla was accompanied by the Chief of Administration, Rear Admiral Kennedy Ezete, the Director of Veteran Affairs, Rear Admiral MY Dahiru and the Commander of Naval Unit, Commodore ST Lengaya.
