The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has suspended its Senior Pastor, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, who also leads the Apapa Family of the RCCG.

This decision follows public backlash over a lavish birthday party for Pastor Iluyomade’s wife, Siju Iluyomade, which took place shortly after the death of former Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe.

The church’s Governing Council has suspended Pastor Iluyomade for three months and established a panel to investigate the allegations related to the extravagant celebration and its implications for the parish.

During Pastor Iluyomade’s suspension, Pastor Charles Kpandei from RCCG Resurrection Parish will take over leadership at the City of David parish.

The suspension was motivated by concerns about the church’s public image and the need to address the controversy surrounding the birthday event.

The church viewed this action as essential to uphold its integrity and thoroughly investigate the situation.

Reactions within the RCCG community have been mixed, with some members supporting the decision and others believing it was overdue.

The appointment of a new pastor and the possibility that Pastor Iluyomade might not return to his position after the suspension indicate a significant leadership change at the City of David.
