The Rotary Club of Akure Prestige in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Akure City, on Friday, extended hands of help to the residents of Eleyowo in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, by donating medical items and drugs to the basic health centre situated in the community.

The event, held at the community’s health centre, featured the donation of items like bedsheets, curtains, essential drugs, and antimalaria medications.

Addressing the gathering, the President of Akure Rotary prestige, RTN Omolola Fadumiye, explained that Rotary international as a non-governmental organisation, comprised individuals who had chosen the path of rendering selfless services to humanity by lending hands of assistance to the less privileged members of the society, in oder to make the world a better place, noting that government alone cannot attend to everything.



She hinted that the Rotary club of Akure Prestige and Rotary Club of Akure collaborated to organise the sensitisation talk on Malaria and prevention under the ‘Disease Prevention and Treatment’ initiative of the Rotary Club International with the support of the World Health Organisation.

According to her, the decision to hold the programme at the Eleyowo basic health centre was arrived at when some members of the club visited the area and complained about the condition of the health facility.



The major highlights of the programme was a sensitisation talk on Malaria disease prevention, which was given by the Director of Accurate Medical Centre, Dr. Akinguoye Adebayo, and the distribution of bedsheets and free drugs.

The sensitisation talk featured interaction between the guest lecturer and the nursing mothers in attendance who took turns to engage him with issues pertaining to the health of their children, including enlightenment about the cause of certain common infections amongst women and children.




Receiving the items on behalf of the centre, Mrs. Oluyede Bosede, appreciated the donor’s gesture, saying: “Most of the things you brought are part of what we lack, we are so happy that there are still organisation like this. On behalf of the Health centre, I want to say a big thank you to the Rotary club members”.

In his remarks, the President, Rotary Club of Akure city, RTN Semiu Abiodun Adigun, advised them to make use of the sensitisation talks by prioritising their Health life, saying prevention is better than cure.



He affirmed that it was the philosophy of Rotary Club International to lift the needy through free empowerment services and donation of items, saying that whoever patronised the vulnerable ones did God’s business.

The Rotary club also promised to bring free medical tests and treatment to the community come next year in order to extend the gesture to the elderly residents.
