Updated: Lynching suspected ‘Yahoo boy’ who crushed three to death is jungle justice- Ondo Police

Angry mob on Monday lynched a suspected internet fraudster that killed three persons along Ijoka road in Akure.

His vehicle was also set on fire by the angry mob.

It was gathered that the accident involved a Toyota car, suspected to be owned by an internet fraudster rammed into about five commercial motorcycles carrying passengers at different spots along Ijo Mimo, through Sunday bus stop, Ijoka road.

Hope Metro gathered that three people died on the spot, while others sustained series of injuries.

The driver of the Toyota car who did not sustain any injury was trying to escape from the scene before he was caught by some youths and was beaten into coma.

The mob did not spare the life of the suspected internet fraudster as he was stoned and beaten to death.

Some of the injured persons were rescued to nearby hospitals, while the lifeless bodies were left on the ground as of the time of this report.

It was gathered that the deceased, who was driving a tinted Toyota Corolla drove carelessly on the main road while running from being apprehended after his vehicle had earlier knocked down a woman at Ijomu Area of the town.

The suspect in the process, collided with motorcycles and cars on his way which led to the death of several people including a couple.

The suspect destroyed many vehicles while trying to run away.

It was gathered that the boy who claimed he had brake failure had allegedly killed up to eight persons before he was stopped by some angry mob.

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity told the Hope Metro that he was part of the people who stopped the vehicle after he killed a couple on a bike at prestige junction.

He added that the car of the suspect was searched and the items found inside his car infuriated the angry mob.

According to the source, the items found in the car include: a live tortoise, 10 ladies underwears, a calabash filled with black soap, a pieces of red cloth, amongst others

The arrival of the men of the police force restores peace in the area, while his remains was taken away.

Reacting to the incident through SUNSHINETRUTH, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmi Odunlami, said the killing of the boy by mob was a jungle justice.

The PPRO said, “No one can confirm if the young man in question is an internet fraudster, there was an accident that led to the death of a motorcyclist, rather than people around to help, some resolved  to Jungle Justice by killing the young man  Olorunfemi Tope aged 35 who drove the vehicle and set the car ablaze.

“But for the quick intervention of the police, his parents too would have been killed, in all 2 people confirm dead while 6 others involved and injured in the accident are currently in the hospital.

“The parent of the driver now late (the boy) came to the scene (where the boy was lynched to death) but not in the vehicle with their son,” Odunlami said.
