A 30-year-old Beninese, Akouta Charles Delore and two others: Biola Daudu, 29 and Sanmi Aminu were on Friday arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 50 pigs worth of N5,400000.

The defendants, who were staff of Mitelo Farms Nigeria Limited, Ogbese are facing on two-count of conspiracy and stealing.

According to the prosecution, the defendants and other at large committed the offence between September 2021 and May 2022.

The Police Prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehin told the court that the defendants and others at large conspired to commit a felony to wit: stealing.

He alleged that the defendants stole special high breed pigs worth five million, four hundred thousand Naira, belonging to their employee, Mitelo Farm.

Akintimehin said the offence contravene Sections 516 and 383 Cap.37, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

He, therefore, sought for an adjournment to enable him peruse the case file and get more facts of the case.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

Counsel to the defendants, Mr Chris Fagbohun, made an oral application, urging the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

He said that the defendants would be available to stand trial if granted bail.

He added that the matter could be settled considering the fact that the defendants are employees of the farm.

He prayed the court to give the defendant opportunity to explore settlement.

The Magistrate, Musa Al-Yunus, in his ruling, ordered that the defendants be kept in police custody pending the ruling on their bail applications.

The case was adjourned to May 30 for the ruling.
