In order to acquaint the recently inaugurated Ondo state Youth Parliament with the code and conducts of a legislative setting, the state government has conducted an induction course for the youth parliamentarians.

The induction programme carried out by the state Ministry of Youth and Sports Development was in line with the established protocol and principle of due process, which is essential to guide parliamentarians aright in their legislative duties.

The state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Dotun Owanikin Esq. while addressing the parliamentarians assured them of the state government commitment to the cause of the youth in the state reminding them that their inauguration/induction course was a clear demonstration of the present administration commitment to preparing the youth as future leaders.

The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr(Mrs) Dupe Eshofonie urged the parliamentarians to pay adequate attention to the rudiments of the course which would help them debate robustly on critical issues affecting the state and the youth in particular.

Barrister Owanikin also advised the principal officers of the parliament on the need to adhere strictly to the extant rules that guide the parliament and never compromise their instrument of office which is an underpinning philosophy of any parliament.

He believed that the course would better equip and prepare them for the contemporary social and political challenges of their time.

He said the avenue was also aimed at harnessing their potentials as ideal role model and pride of the society.

The Director Legislative, Chief Oyadeyi Olusegun and the Principal Legislative Officer in the Ondo state House of Assembly, Mr Odole Temitope taught the parliamentarians the functions of members, modus operandi of a parliament and standing order expected them to adopt.

At the end of the induction course, the Parliamentarians had their first sitting to deliberate on matters affecting the youth and the state at large.
