A 25-year-old man, Samuel Olorunyomi, has been remanded at Olokuta correctional centre by a magistrate court sitting in Akure, for allegedly stabbed one Omoniyi Akinnibosun with broken bottle which led to his death.

The accused person who was said to have stabbed the deceased on his neck, waist and right hand was brought before magistrate, Mrs, Victoria Bob-manuel, on a count charge of murder.

The accused committed the offence on January 30, 2020, at about 11:30pm at Idogun camp via Igbotako, in the Ondo State magisterial district.

The offence was contrary to 316 and punishable under section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

Plea was not taken from the defendant when the charge was read to him.

The prosecutor, Inspector Suleiman Abdullateef, prayed the court to remand the defendant in the Correctional service centre pending a legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.

No lawyer stood for the defendant.

However, Bob-manuel ruled in line with the prosecutor’s prayer and ordered the remand of the defendant in correctional service centre pending a legal advice from the office of the DPP, since the magistrate lacks jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

The case was adjourned till March 5, 2020, for a review or issuance of legal advice.
