A 47 year old woman, Zainab Suleiman, a trader, has been remanded in prison custody by a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Akure for allegedly inflicting injuries on the body of a minor girl.

She was alleged to have used her fingernails to cause deep wounds on the body of a 12-year-old girl, Victoria Williams on the 31st January 2020, at Oke-Odu via Ipinsa Akure, the Ondo state capital.

Her offence, according to the prosecution was contrary to and punishable under sections 355 and 338 of the criminal code cap 37 Vol 1 of the Ondo state law, 2006.

The accused woman

The prosecuting counsel, Ajiboye Babatunde who intended to present 6 witnesses, however asked for an adjournment, saying only three were available.

In his ruling, Magistrate Olufunke Adegoroye, ordered the remand of the accused person till February 11,2020.

She further ruled that the case be transferred to the family court since it involves a minor.

JATS News, however, learnt that the victim is a niece of the accused person, her sister’s daughter.
