As Nigerians await the appointment of characters to form President Muhammad Buhari’ s second term cabinet, he has been advised to let pure excellence be the yardstick irrespective of political parties affiliation.
Giving this advice was a Presidential candidate during the last general elections in Nigeria, Dr. Wilson Ikubese in an interview with JATS Communications.
Ikubese, who contested under the platform of the Alliance for New Nigeria, ANN, emphasised the need for Buhari to constitute a cabinet that consist of brilliant people with a track record of excellence in their respective careers.
According to him, President Buhari is no more seeking third term in office, hence, the reason to bring in the best hands to work with him this time around, and look for another way to compensate the politicians that supported his second term victory.
His words: ” The yardstick for appointment of Ministers for President Buhari in his second term in office should be purely based on excellence.
” It’s understandable that politicians always like to compensate those who helped them to get into power, and that is the cause of our retrogression, but the moment a President gets to power, he becomes the president of everybody not for only those that helped him into power.
” There is a way he can compensate them, but he should appoint those who have a pedigree of excellence”.
He suggested that the President should embrace some vibrant and knowledgeable young people who contested during the last elections across the country to work with him regardless of their political parties affiliation.
According to Ikubese, Nigerians are eagerly waiting to see the type of characters that would form his second term cabinet, and advised him not to go for sycophants in the name of compensation but the very best.
