As Nigeria celebrates her 58th Independence, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists(NAWOJ) ,Ondo state chapter has called for peaceful co-existence among the various ethnic groups that made up the country.

In a release signed by the Secretary Abooluwa Famakinwa, the Chairman of the Association Comrade Sola Omotoso said Nigerians should embrace peace especially at this electioneering period.

Omotosho enjoined women, to be ambassadors of peace and frown at anything that would jeopardise the peace of their homes and that of the society at large.

While recognising women’s great roles in the society, the Nawoj Chairman charged them not to be part of the vote buying process but encourage the society to vote according to their conscience.

Omotoso said for every wrong doing in the society, the woman is at the receiving end , so she is the worst hit.

As mothers of the nation,the Nawoj chairman urged women to champion all that is right and ensure their children and wards are not used as political thugs and touts.

In the spirit of celebration, the Nawoj Chairman appealed to the Federal Government to hasten up actions to rescue Leah Sharibu from the Boko Haram’s den and their October death threat.

Leah is one of the 110 female students of Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State abducted on February 19th.

The Chairman on behalf of her members, wishes Nigeria a happy independence celebration and a greater future.
