
Ondo State representative in this year’s Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF/TOTAL division ll Atlantic conference finals, Ondo kings and CAMAC basketball club of Bayelsa have qualified to the next phase of the championship which will take place in Lagos. Ondo Kings narrowly defeated Young Royals of Abeokuta in the last game by 35- 34 to qualify and finished second behind COMAC of Bayelsa who finished as the overall winners after defeating Brave Hearts of Calabar by 41-39 points.
The games were played at the indoor Sports Hall of the Ondo state Sports Complex , Akure.
Reacting to the overall performance of the teams,coordinator of the championship and a one time National handle,Coach Andrew Isokpei commended the doggedness and passion shown by all participating teams stressing that the tournament will produce players for the national teams.
On his part,Ondo state Basketball Coach, Sola Aluko advocates for regular competitions and scholarships for deserving players to boost their interest in the game.
Also Young Royals Basketball of Ogun State Head Coach, Babatunde Adelanwa wants the NBBF to organise training for officials and exposure to keep them in line with the latest techniques in basketball.
Six Teams from Ondo,Enugu,Cross Rivers,Abia and Ogun States respectively took part in the three-day event.
