The Idogun Development Association (IDA) has commissioned a modern digital resource centre comprising an e-library and a proposed JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre for Idogun community and its environs, in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The project commissioning was held at the premises of Idogun High School where it was situated during the annual end-of-year activities of IDA, which usually feature football competitions, free medical outreach, and cultural performances.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Commissioning Planning Committee, Mr. Taiwo Ajimuda, said the project was executed with the support of the Ondo State Community and Social Development Agency (OSCSD).
In his remarks, the Worldwide President of IDA, Engr. Tunji Ajibolade, noted that the project was aimed at making life easier for children in the community and neighbouring areas who usually travel long distances to sit for external examinations such as JAMB.
He appreciated the financial assistance of ₦17 million provided by OSCSD as a grant for the execution of the project, in addition to funds generated during the second IDA Convention.
According to him, the auditorium being commissioned will conveniently accommodate 250 laptops and desks, with four large offices, meeting one of the requirements for the proposed JAMB CBT centre.
“As of today, the total amount spent on the completion of the IDA digital resource centre is about ₦50 million,” he said.
While appreciating members of IDA for their cooperation in developing the community through various initiatives, Ajibolade charged indigenes of Idogun to unite as one family to jointly develop the community, as exemplified by their forebears.
Speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, described the project as a reflection of the collective vision, resilience, and progressive spirit of the Idogun people.
Ajanaku, a son of the soil, said the development of Idogun had long been a personal and shared aspiration, inspired by the sacrifices and selflessness of the town’s forebears who laid a solid foundation for growth.
He noted that the legacy of past community leaders who championed development at great personal cost placed a responsibility on the present generation not only to sustain but also to surpass their achievements.
According to him, the commissioning of the ICT centre further underscores Idogun’s tradition of pursuing progressive initiatives, recalling that the establishment of Idogun High School was also a product of similar collective efforts by the Idogun Progressive Union (IPU) and community leaders.
The commissioner stressed that meaningful development could only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and unity, urging residents to shun actions capable of undermining harmony in the community.
He expressed concern that Idogun had recently been in the news for negative reasons and called on all stakeholders to cooperate with the Ondo State Government to restore lasting peace.
Ajanaku appealed to residents to respect and accept, in good faith, the outcome of the Administrative Panel currently sitting in Akure to address issues affecting the community.
The IDA Patron and former Secretary to the State Government and Head of Service, Attorney Omolorun Modupe affirmed that the digital centre has opened a new educational chapter and horizon for students in Idogun and its environs.
He said the initiative was necessitated by the need to make the student population computer-literate, especially in view of the Federal Government’s policy direction towards the introduction of computer-based examinations in Nigeria’s education sector.
In his remarks, the Father of the Day and Chairman of the Irekari Development Association, Sen. Dr. Bode Olajumoke, described the project as a welcome development and a great relief for Irekari communities.
Olajumoke, who supported the project with a substantial donation, urged users to make judicious use of the centre.
The commissioning ceremony also featured the presentation of scholarship awards to Idogun students in higher institutions studying medical courses, best students in key subjects, and indigent students.
The scholarships, with prizes ranging from ₦10,000 to ₦200,000, were sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Adewolu, indigenes of the community.
The Lord Bishop of Idoani Diocese, Rt. Rev. Adegoke Agara, who commissioned the IDA Digital Resource Centre, appreciated the initiative of the association.
The Bishop also affirmed that the Diocese of Idoani Nursery, Primary, and Secondary School had benefited from the e-library and computer training center commissioned by the association two years ago at its temporary site.
He further emphasized that the proposed ICT centre is a great asset to the Idogun and Irekari communities as a whole.
He prayed for the president and all members of the association and donated one laptop to support the establishment of the ICT centre.
The event attracted community leaders, residents, and well-wishers from across the Irekari Local Development Authority, marking another milestone in Idogun’s quest for educational advancement and socio-economic development.
