The Ondo State Police Command has uncovered a suspected baby factory and human trafficking syndicate operating in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The discovery followed a report made by a 17-year-old girl, Vivian Peter, from Ikot Ekpan in Akwa Ibom State, who was allegedly trafficked to Ore under the pretext of securing a job.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, Peter revealed that upon arrival, she was taken to a facility that turned out to be a baby factory where several pregnant girls were being held. She managed to escape and reported the case at the Ore Police Division on October 21, 2025.
Following her report, officers from the Ore Division and the Gender-Based Violence Unit conducted a raid on the facility, rescuing five pregnant girls and a baby boy. One of the victims had already given birth and is receiving postnatal care at the General Hospital, Ore. The others are currently in the protective custody of the police.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the prime suspect, identified as one Ada Clement, and her accomplices confessed that the facility was being used to harbor pregnant girls until they delivered their babies, which were then sold to interested buyers. The police disclosed that female babies were sold for ₦400,000 and above, while male babies went for ₦600,000 and above.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation to ensure all members of the trafficking network are apprehended and prosecuted. He also confirmed that detectives are trailing other fleeing members of the syndicate.
CP Lawal reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, stressing that the police will continue to combat human trafficking, baby factories, child exploitation, and gender-based violence in all forms.
He assured the public that the Command remains resolute in protecting the vulnerable and bringing perpetrators of such crimes to justice.
