The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ondo State Chapter has urged the Ondo state government to prioritize the welfare and protection of the girl child in the state.
This was contained in a statement by the state Chairperson, Comrade Tola Gbadamosi, and Secretary, Comrade Oluwatosin Ighoteguono in commemoration of this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, with the theme: “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis”.
As the world celebrates the resilience, strength, and leadership of girls globally, particularly those confronting challenges in conflict zones, disaster-prone areas, and other crises, Ondo NAWOJ urges the government and relevant agencies to take concrete measures to protect girls from violence and exploitation.
The association also admonished the government to strengthen laws protecting girl child, provide access to quality education and healthcare, amplify girls’ voices, and support parents in the state.
The Ondo NAWOJ while commending the state government’s efforts at promoting the welfare of women and children, including the launch of TECH A GIRL; PAD A GIRL CHILD INITIATIVE aimed at empowering girls, looks forward to continued collaboration and support to promote the rights and well-being of girl child in Ondo State.
The Association encourages parents and guardians, especially mothers, to train their child, especially girls, on effective home management and values that promote gender equality and respect for human rights.
