As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, particularly with the emergence of a coalition of political parties, supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have been cautioned against underestimating the power of the masses or overrating the President’s political prowess in securing re-election.

The warning came in response to what has been described as the growing overconfidence among some of Tinubu’s political aides and supporters, who continue to bank on his established political influence and financial strength while downplaying the threat posed by the opposition coalition and electorate’s response.

Issuing the caution was a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former gubernatorial aspirant in Ondo State, Nigeria, Mr. Moyosola Niran-Oladunni.

He urged party members and loyalists to brace for a more intense campaign season, stressing the need for deliberate grassroots engagement to secure Tinubu’s second-term bid.

According to him, the prevailing economic hardship is fueling public discontent and could influence voter behavior in unpredictable ways during the next elections.

“I will implore my party, APC supporters and office holders to be prepared for a serious campaign and people’s engagement rather than the very lazy attitude of saying ‘Asiwaju is a Master of Politics’.

“I keep asking my friends within the party how elections are won at their communities, and the response I get from everywhere is that ‘Asiwaju is a Master of Politics’.
“From my political experience in Nigeria, right from the time of Shagari till now, an incumbent reelection is always tougher than the first time election”, he said.

Niran-Oladunni expressed concern over what he described as the nonchalant attitude of political leaders towards the welfare of the people, warning that complacency could cost the party dearly if not addressed.

He added: “Asiwaju needs to call his people to order and send them back to their communities to engage the electorate. The people are truly starving”
