Ondo State has announced its preparedness to kick off a statewide measles vaccination campaign scheduled for October 5th to October 10th, 2024.

This was revealed by Mrs. Olubunmi Obaromi, Deputy State Health Educator of the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, during a Media Orientation on HPV/Non-Polio Supplemental Immunization Integrated Activities held in Oyo, Oyo State.

Presenting an overview of the integrated Supplemental Immunization Activities (SIAs), Obaromi stated that the state aims to vaccinate 925,111 children during the campaign.

She emphasized the government’s efforts in preparing for the campaign, including advocacy visits to relevant stakeholders, sensitization meetings with education authorities, and a town hall meeting involving religious and traditional leaders, opinion leaders, medical professionals, market associations, women’s groups, community-based organizations (CBOs), faith-based organizations (FBOs), and military and paramilitary groups.

To ensure maximum reach, she informed that community engagement efforts have been intensified across the state. According to Obaromi, 203 wards had participated in community dialogues, town announcers had been deployed to spread the word in every community, and market storm activities, along with entertainment rallies, had been organized to raise awareness.

Mrs. Aladesuyi, an immunization officer at the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, further disclosed that the state’s health team had just returned from a National Training of Trainers.
