In a devastating incident, at least 19 people lost their lives when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), suspected have been suicide attack by Boko Haram insurgents, detonated at a local tea joint in Kawuri village, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State. The explosion occurred yesterday night on Wednesday, causing significant casualties and injuries.

The blast targeted a popular gathering spot where villagers convened for night chats, leading to the tragic deaths and 24 injuries.
The injured have been evacuated to an undisclosed State specialist hospital in Maiduguri for urgent medical attention.

A source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, mentioned, “Nobody can say exactly how it happened, but we suspect that the bomb was a suicide attack. We saw corpses of 19 people with and 24 injured.”

Kawuri community, located about 50 kilometers from Maiduguri, the state capital, is now in mourning as it grapples with the aftermath of this horrific attack.

In response to the tragedy, several high-ranking officials and stakeholders visited the site to assess the situation. Among them were the Executive Chairman of Konduga LGA, Hon. Abba Ali Abbari; the Member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Bukar Modu Dr. B; the Secretary of the Council, Alhaji Sale Bukar FCNA; and the Senior Special Adviser to His Excellency, Hon. Abba Saje Mamman Nur.

Hon. Abba Ali Abbari expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and assured the community that measures would be taken to enhance security and prevent such incidents in the future. The officials emphasized the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with security forces to combat the threat posed by insurgents.

This tragic event underscores the ongoing challenges faced by communities in Borno State as they contend with the persistent threat of terrorism. The local government, along with state authorities, remains committed to supporting the affected families and strengthening security measures to safeguard the lives and well-being of the residents.
