In a bid towards scaling-up quality healthcare service at the  UNIMED Teaching Hospital Ondo, through training and research-driven  programmes, the hospital has organized a one-day orientation programme for newly recruited Resident Doctors.

The programme was designed to help their integration into the highly demanding, science oriented Residency programme that is intended to culminate into highly trained Consultants in specialized fields of medical care.

The Acting Chief Medical Director UNIMEDTH, Dr. Michael Olumide Gbala espoused in his address that the orientation programme is taking place prior to the commencement of their posting so that they would be achieve a level of understand about the scope of their training  programme that would help them settle in effortlessly into their different departments.

More so, the orientation seminar would enable them to understand first hand  experiences, shared by their seniors who had become Consultants ahead of them.

In another vein, Dr Gbala stated that residency programme is the bedrock of clinical services at any Teaching Hospital. He said without it, knowledge transfer would be difficult. He added that the current set of Residents would be the next set of Consultants if they they can remain focused.



The Deputy-CMAC UNIMEDTH, Dr. Ayodeji Akinbodewa Ayodeji Akinwumi Ayodeji congratulated the new Residents, encouraging to make the sacrifice of prioritizing studying over the distraction of searching for monetary gains at the moment. He advised all departments to ensure there is a system in place that will help every new Registrar settle in.

The coordinator of the training and Deputy-CMAC (Training) , Dr Stephen Adewole said that the major essence of the seminar was to ensure that the Trainees were less distracted and be more focused, so that they would conclude their programmes at record time.

The orientation is scheduled to continue at intervals for as long as it is required for Resident doctors to gain a proper foothold in the training set up at the UNIMED Teaching Hospital Ondo State.
