Pascal Okechukwu, better known as Cubana Chief Priest, received a N10 million bail with two sureties of similar amount from the Federal High Court in Lagos State. The renowned businessman and socialite pleaded not guilty to charges of tampering with the nation’s currency under the Central Bank Act of 2007.

Facing allegations of spraying and tampering with Naira notes at a social event, Cubana Chief Priest appeared before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on three counts related to the abuse of currency. The incidents were reported to have occurred during social gatherings, including one at Eko Hotel on February 13, 2024.

The charges, marked FHC/L/ 246/2024, accused Cubana Chief Priest of tampering with N500 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria during events in Lagos in 2020 and January 2024.

This development follows the recent conviction of another public figure, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, for similar offenses. The EFCC, which secured Bobrisky’s conviction, has been investigating several celebrities for alleged abuse of Naira notes.

In light of these actions, the EFCC spokesperson emphasized the commission’s commitment to enforcing the law without bias, urging the public to abide by regulations regarding currency handling.”
