As part of the Commissioner of Police official tour of duty, CP Abayomi P. Oladipo and his Management Team paid the Honourable Chief Judge of Ondo State a courtesy visit on the 26th of March, 2024.

The CP in his speech informed the Chief Judge on the formation of the Judges Protection Unit to provide adequate security to judges in the state, training and retraining of police officers who are Prosecutors in courts as the legal team of the Command will also parley with the judiciary in the State.

The CP also urged the Chief Judge to look into remanding of defendants on trial in Police facilities due to congestion at the Correctional Centre.

He suggested that defendants with capital offense(s) should be remanded at the Correctional facilities while suspects of minor offenses should be served non custodial sentence/community service to reduce congestion as a remedial measures.

The CP also implore the Chief Judge to admonish Magistrates to serve justice on cases instead of granting orders barring Police from inviting, investigating and arresting suspects under criminal investigations.

He also stated that the electioneering period of the State was fast approaching and some mischief makers may want to use it as means of propagating false information, cyberattacks, thuggery etc and there is need to use some as guinea pigs to serve as deterrent to others.

The Chief judge in his response, appreciated the CP for the visit and assured that some of the issues raised are currently being considered and the judicial arm of the State will work with the Police in the discharge of its constitutional duties.
