There was tremendous improvement in the acquisition of skills among the Trainees for the second week, which is evident in their responses to learning.

The second week was opened with a general class, where the Trainees were enlightened on breast self-awareness to prevent needless death from breast cancer.

Breast Self Examination lecture

The session was led by the OSSA-EP Coordinator who doubles as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Gender Research and Documentation, Mrs Temitope Daniyan.

Daniyan, who is the national Vice-President of Breast cancer Association of Nigeria, BRECAN, another live-saving organisation of the First Lady that focuses on creating awareness about breast cancer, taught them how to conduct Breast Self Examination(BSE), using the SEKEM dance, the fun-filled approach; and also educated them about symptoms of breast cancer.

BSE training

Solar technology training fully resumed for beneficiaries who picked ICT/Solar class, this week two.

The solar technology class is being facilitated by Miss Christianah Madu, an alumnae of the BeMore Empowered Foundation, another initiative of Mrs Akeredolu where girls are equipped with training in ICT/Solar technology to become future female technology leaders.

She introduced solar technology and the importance of renewable energy to the Trainees and took them through functions of a solar panel, solar battery, inverter, installation tools, and work safety tips.

She rounded off Solar class’ lesson for the week with introduction to battery connection where they were taught how to use pen illustrations to connect batteries.

The ICT class’ Trainees progressed with lessons on Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and how to create a document folder.

Under the general class, they acquired further knowledge in the production of some household items, which include how to make Airfreshener, antiseptic liquids like bleach and toilet wash; and disinfectants(izal and dettol).

In the bag making class, the trainees were taken through the processes involved in producing fashionable female purses in addition to their knowledge in bag making, which they started last week.

A new general class was included in this week’s timetable, which was a menstrual hygiene lesson. This class was also anchored by three alumni of the Bemore Empowered Foundation, who are Miss Marvellous Jegede, Miss Yusuf Boluwatife, and Miss Adesoji Anjolaoluwa.

The Trainees were divided into three groups where they were taught how to make a Reusable sanitary pad, a session they embraced with all their energies by showcasing readiness to learn with a lot of excitement.

Their level of excitement about the menstrual hygiene lesson was unquantifiable as they pleaded for an extension of time in order to also learn production baby pampers.

In continuation of baking and confectionaries training, those in this class used the week two to learn how to make fish pie, doughnuts, peanuts, and the baking of chocolate cake.

Meanwhile, those in fashion design class continued with training on how to cut, measure and sew female dresses, and took a step further to learn the processes involved in making trousers.

Hairdressing and makeup classes continued with the production of different wigs, including how to braid; while the makeup trainees engaged in tying different styles of headgear.
