The prolonged Obaship tussle in Ijare community in Ondo state has led to a protest during the weekend as indigenes of the community called on the kingmakers to do the needful as soon as possible.


The protesters, who where seen chanting “Give us our king is what we are crying for, nothing more”, therefore, appealed to the kingmakers headed by High Chief Sapetu to give them a king out of the four 4 candidates presented to them by the Royal family as soon as possible.

It was gathered that Princes who are referred to Omowas in accordance with the Ijare tradition who were in race for Obaship stool were in total of 13, in which oracle consultation revealed the acceptable 7 out of the 13.



Source revealed that a candidate out of the 7 the oracle selected died in the course of the process, reducing it to a total number of 6.
Following the tradition and custom of the Ijare land, the Omowas proceeded with screening exercises, which eventually reduced them to four.

Source further alleged the Kingsmakers of trying to sabotage the efforts being put in place by OMOWAS and community expectations.


It was alleged that Sapetu ( head of the kingmaker) is trying to force one Kola Oyewole on the community which has been rejected by the oracle and the community at large , in which some of the kingmaker are witnesses to the rejection of kola Oyewole by the oracle.

During the protest, the regent of Ijare community appealed to the Kingsmakers to act like a leader and fasten the process of selection by acting on the list.

She further said if the Kingsmakers really loved the Ijare community, they should not be partisan and act fast in the final selection stage and to further avoid letting Obaship tussle disturb the peace of the community.
