Insecurity: Ondo NSCDC seeks stronger ties with Nigerian Navy to curb crimes in Coastal areas

In a bid to tackle Security challenges and rate of criminalities in the coastal areas of the State; the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ondo State Command has expressed her commitment to strengthen the long existing relationship with the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB), Igbokoda Ondo State.

This statement was signed and made known to newsmen by the Command Public Relations Officer DSC Olufemi Omole on Thursday 28th October, 2021.

During a security tour to the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) Commander, Captain AA Zubairu mni ; the State Commandant of the NSCDC Ondo Command, Dr Hammed Abodunrin said the relationship between the Armed Forces and NSCDC could be backdated to the history of the Corps since 1967. He affirmed that this cooperation has enhanced series of trainings, joint operations and capacity building of the Corps personnel for effective service delivery.

He noted that NSCDC Ondo Command has taken custody of suspects, Boats and oil Tankers arrested by the Nigerian Navy FOB, Igbokoda and as they were handed over; the Command carried out appropriate investigation and prosecution being the lead agency in Antivandalism of Oil pipelines and Protection of all Government Critical National Assets and Infrastructure. Sequel to the aforementioned, “the Command is further seeking stronger synergy with the Nigerian Navy for Training and Re-Training of the Corps personnel in professional capacity, enforcement of Maritime traffic rules, combating criminalities in the coastal areas of Ondo State amongst others, he said”.

In his response the Navy Commander said the fight against Insecurity in the nation requires the collective effort of all Stakeholders in the Security arena and to achieve meaningful success the cooperation must be very strong and void of superiority contest, Interagency rivalries and unnecessary competitions; affirming that carrying out operations with the Ondo NSCDC has always brought laudable achievements and the FOB Command under his watch will continue to maintain the synergy in all ramifications.

The Ondo State Commandant took the tour further through his visit to the palace of His Royal Majesty, Oba Phillip Afolabi Odidi omo, the Olu of Igbokoda who in his warmth reception commended the NSCDC for carrying out her statutory mandates professionally without prejudice. The Royal father also pledged his support in the areas of sensitization and awareness on Personal security and protection seminar for Schools and Community leaders as proposed by the Ondo State Commandant.

In the height of the Security tour, Commandant Abodunrin and his entourage travelled through the waterways from Ebute Ipare through Abereke to NSCDC Outpost in Idiogba Community to inspect four boats handed over to the Command by the Nigerian Navy FOB; thereafter, he had an interactive session with the Niger Delta Security Surveillance (NDSS) and the Ondo State members of Maritime Workers Association of Nigeria.

In his address the Commandant promised collaborating with the NDSS to continually sensitize the Maritime transporters and passengers on the need to imbibe necessary safety precautions on waterways. He further, expressed his satisfaction with the numerous life Jackets provided and warned against waste disposal in Rivers as well as plying the waterways without using Life Jackets.
