As part of celebrating its week long activity, the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations of Nigeria, FOMWAN, has donated assorted gift items ranging from bags of rice, toiletries, spaghettis and the likes to correctional homes at Okitipupa and Owo respectively.

The State President of the Association, Alhaja Aminat Abibullahi Akinpelumi making the presentation at the weekend promised unrelenting efforts as she noted that the association has been making regular visits to the correctional homes which have earned it two commendation letters for humanitarian work.

She said the visit was to commemorate the association’s week long activities with the theme: “My community, my pride”, with a bid to campaign to end open defecation.

She advised the inmates to be faithful, patience and prayerful for God to grant their heart desires, saying they will get their freedom at God’s appointed time.

The State Chairman of Humanitarian and Community Development Committee, Alhaja Rafat Momoh advised the inmates to hold on to their faith and be more prayerful to receive the blessings of God.

” It is a correctional home to correct whatever anomalies that brought you here. It is not yet over untill it is over. You can still be greater as you are ordained by God.” she said.

The Assistant Controller Operations in charge of Okititupa Medium Correctional Center, Mr. Adeolu Oladapo who played host to the visiting organisation called on philanthropists, civil society organisations, government and well meaning Nigerians to assist in the rehabilitation of the center which was vandalised by hoodlums during the #Endsars protest last year.

Oladapo said the center was terribly vandalised by the hoodlums who bombarded the center with sporadic gun shots and made away with several valuables rendering the center cripple.

He said they destroyed and went away with over 100 chairs, wireless speaker, the inmates’ food stuffs and accessories as well as vandalising the barbing salon among several others.

He charged people to spread love and stop discriminating against one another as he applauded the association for being an exemplary example in humanitarian services.

The Welfare Officer in charge of Owo, Mr. Olotu John expressed satisfaction and appreciated FOMWAN for the visit and extending their assistance to the inmates.

He said the Owo center was lucky not to have been attacked during the #Endsars protest, but that the inmates need toiletries, accessories, food stuff and other household things.

In a reaction, an inmate appealed that the association should not make it a yearly visitation during programmes but to visit them always and be prayed for as done by the christains as he urged them to pray fervently for the correctional center’s controller for his magnanimity and making them as a United family in respective of their religion.

Present at the visit is a Chief Imam in Okitipupa Mallam Ahmed Tijani and representative from the Nigeria AID Group Mr Eniola Safurani.
