Insecurity: Women group tasks President Buhari to man up, threatens nationwide protest

President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to drastically tackle the issue of insecurity in the nation holistically rather than taken it with kid gloves.

Standup for Women Society, a Non Governmental Organisation gave the charge, through a communique released at the end of its national emergency meeting, which was signed by the group’s national President, Barr. Deborah Abosede Ijadele-Adetona and the national Public Relations Officer, Alhaja Bilkisu Ado Zango, a copy of which was made available to journalists.

It observed that the Nigerian citizens are highly disturbed with the increase in the numbers of widows, fatherless and motherless children, across the nation”.

“It is worth noting that, the heat of this insecurity also gets to the Relief Centres and individuals homes. Worst of it all is that Farmers can no longer go to their farmlands, road transport is fast becoming a mirage, most small business owners can no longer operate due to the state of insecurity in our nation”, the group noted.

It warned that the effects of all these will invite famine in the families and poverty level will continue to rise, social vices and increase in crime rate.

It implored the federal government to urgently enact law enforcement agencies and judicial Tribunal at both federal and states level to give capital punishment to anyone caught in the act of kidnapping, banditry and raping.

It also advised that all state governments should be permitted to have their own internal security as well as establishing the state police, emphasising the need for traditional rulers to be incorporated in the Security Councils at all levels as they are more closer to their people.

The group noted that women would not hesitate to lead a peaceful national protest should no drastic action is taken on all major aspects of insecurity within the next two months commencing from June.
