OSTA holds 2021 Junior Tennis Tournament

The Ondo State Tennis Association (OSTA) holds the 2021 Junior Tennis Tournament between 3rd- 9th May 2021 at the Ondo State Sports Stadium, Akure.

The grand finale of the Junior Tennis Tournament was held on Sunday 9th May, 2021 under the Chairmanship of Prince Steve Olateru-Olagbegi who declared the tournament open. The final Junior categories include Under 12- Junior Female Tennis between Sarah Adisa and Ayomikun Olukolade while Under 16 Male Tennis finals was between Imole Adisa and Olamilekan Moses.

The under 12 Junior Female Tournament was won by Miss Sarah Adisa with 4-1, 4-2 while the Under 16 Junior Male Tennis was won by Imole Adisa against Olamilekan Moses with 6-3, 6-2 respectively.

The Chairman, Ondo State Tennis Association- Prince Steve Olateru-Olagbegi said the purpose of the tournament is to reorientate the younger generations to embrace Tennis rather than engage in untowards activities that will mar the society.

He said the future of any one who choose to engage in Tennis Sports is secured. He sought for more support in terms of funding and provision of logistics from the State Government and meaningful Citizens calling all Tennis players in the State to rise up to the task and show more hard work.

Prince Steve further thanked the President, Nigera Tennis Association and Sponsor of the 2021 Junior Tennis Tournament in person of Otunba Dayo Akindoju for his unrelenting support.


In his words he also commended the Matron and Patron of the Ondo State Tennis Association,; Arabirin Betty Anyanwu- Akeredolu and Mr Dapo Adelegan for the magnanimous support to strenghten the capacity of Tennis Sporting activities in Ondo State.

While commenting on the 2021 Junior Tournament; the First Vice Chairman, Ondo State Tennis Association, Mr. Dele Maku said the future is bright for the young ones if they dedicate their time to participate in sporting activities most especially Tennis Sports.

Other members of the Tennis Association: Mr Mayowa Sunday (Coach) and Mr Francis Obinna Nnadi expressed their joy for the success achieved in the Ondo 2021 Junior Tennis Tournament.

In his remarks, Francis Obinna, a Deputy Commandant of the Nigera Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ondo State Command said there would be a drastic reduction in the rate of crimes in Ondo State and Nigeria at large if Sport is given more attention as Sports brings Unity irrespective of tribes, culture and ideology.

He called on the youth to shun all forms of Criminal activities and give room for positive behaviours.

The 2021 Junior Tennis Tournament was rounded up with presentation of awards and gifts to the Winners, Runner-up and the Third Place in Under 16, 14 and 12 Junior boys and girls.

The Ondo State Tennis Association Chairman has however beckoned on the Government and meaningful Nigerians for encouragement and support to promising Tennis players as the Association is making efforts to “catch them young” so that they would be able to advance professionally and compete favourably with their counterparts across the globe.
