A lawmaker representing Owo/Ose Federal Constituency, Otunba Timehin Adelegbe has condemned the killing of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of a Pan Yoruba Socio-Political leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti by armed bandits on Friday.


The Lawmaker expressed worries about persistent cases of insecurity in the South West zone in Nigeria and therefore called for the creation of state police.


Adelegbe who made this known in Akure at the weekend, decried the incesant attacks on innocent lives by bandits, gunmen and called for adequate security by the Federal Government, all state Governors and relevant stakeholders. 


“The recent spate of attacks on innocent people in Ondo state, South West zone and other parts of the country has reached an alarming stage as the perpetrators of this deadly acts continuously kill innocent persons.


“The current situation in the country had further emphasised the need for state police”, he said.


 He urged the Federal Government to initiate a process for the creation of state police, saying such is necessary to tackle the crisis confronting some states of the country.


He noted that the current policing system had not made effective and efficient security possible. 


According to him, security of the nation can only improve if the federating states are empowered through devolution of powers.
