Stakeholders in Sports industry, especially governments at all levels have been reminded of the need to massively invest in the development of youths through sporting activities merged with formal education.

Mr. Isaac Afolabi

The initiator of Blitzik Sports in Ondo state , Mr. Isaac Afolabi said this while speaking with journalists in Akure in preparation for the first edition of Blitzik Basketball clinics scheduled to hold on 15th May, 2019.

Afolabi, a seasoned Sports journalist and Assistant Secretary, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Ondo State chapter noted that is the responsibility of government to create enabling environment that would encourage investors to key in to make sports thrive in the state.

He lamented the neglect of other sports by corporate organisations, calling for a drastic change to balance and multivate others who have talenti in other areas of sports.

He further called for a synergy between the Ministries of Sports and Education in ensuring that raw talents and those engaged in active sports are encouraged to pick up academic courses or learn a skill during their blistering career so as to fall back on something after retirement and be relevant to the society.

The Blitzik Sports boss expressed displeasure on the lifestyles of some Sports heroes in Nigeria who had worked hard to bring glory to the country, but ended up living in penury without government’s assistance.

He however noted that to this end his Non- governmental Organisation will continue to advocate better well being for Sports men and women, talents discovery and education mixed with sports for a better society.

According to him, the basketball clinic will feature secondary schools in Ondo state, basketball teams in Ondo, from Ekiti and Lagos States.

The clubs are Ondo kings, Ondo raiders, Sunshine Angels, Invaders Ekiti and MFM basketball team.

Afolabi therefore appealed to corporate organisations and schools to continually organize sports competition which he noted will engage youths and divert their energy into meaningful ventures and keep them mentally and physically fit.
